Accidently Educational

Quick Update:
We've had a very busy month. The last of the produce is coming in. I've processed my way through two bushels of peaches, a bushel of pears, and had two bushels of apples  done for me by family while I dealt with a small crisis. My pantry is almost full again.

School is in full swing and my husband is working whatever random shifts his employer deems necessary. It's certainly not boring around here!

This week, we discovered a brand new fun AND educational activity. It was an accident, really. The youngest knocked over a package of disposable cups left over from our family reunion and discovered he could stack them. At first, I was a little bit irritated that he had made yet another mess but he was playing with them so quietly that I decided it wasn't a bad idea at all! Our daddy thought it was great and added two more packs of different color cups. Total cost for three packages was $9.16 including tax.

We've used them for counting, sorting, and, of course, building. I plan on using them for letter and number recognition lessons, as well as multiplication and division problems.

I wonder how many other things will be accidentally educational around here. Do you have any other ideas for my cups? I'd love to have more ways to use them! However, "Mom Brain" has kicked in full blast this week and I'm lucky that I can think enough to type!

Blessings to you!!

  1. Well, the only thing I can think of, is throwing some dirt into them and growing something. Or making the dessert "worms in dirt". Yum. Haven't had that in a loooooong time.

I have a question that I have been meaning to ask you.

How does one get started on a stockpile? Like, square one?

I know you do a lot of couponing. How do you find good ones? Whenever I get a Sunday paper to look, it's always coupons for products I don't buy. I usually buy store brand.

Also, do you go to Save a Lot or Aldis? I usually just go to Walmart, but have been thinking about trying other places as well. But I don't want the food savings to go in to the gas tank, you know?
